Have you ever watched an athlete balance? Really watched them? They make it look so easy but in reality it’s thousands of constant micro-adjustments, so finely tuned from hours and hours of practice and quite a few falls. It’s not just in athletics, this happens in all aspects of life; Spirituality, career, relationships, hobbies.

It’s tempting to look at someone with some level of balance and think they have it all worked out. What you might not see is the bruising from the falls, or the hours of work. You might not appreciate the thousands of micro-adjustments they are making all the time.

So when your life is rumbling around like an off-center washing machine full of blue jeans just take a breath, and try to adjust. Balance doesn’t come easy, it’s a lot of work. But you will get there.

And if need help looking at the balance in your life, and some coaching as well, make sure you take a look at my Patreon and contact me today!

Ever want to bring some prosperity into your life?

I know a few years back I sure did. We needed a loan badly to secure the mortgage on the farmhouse that had been in the family generations and the time was ticking away. I started looking at some of the various money draw spells and rituals, but none of them felt exactly right. I had done some of them before with mixed results, which meant either I had not done them correctly, or there was some other reason.

I started digging into myself and there was a lot of fear around getting this done. Worry I would not be able to get it done in time, worry that I didn’t have a down payment, the near panic that people I didn’t know were going to be looking at records and documents. Worse than that, my credit score was, for all effects, non-existent. Having declared bankruptcy many years before, since then I had used only cash and scraped by. When I really started to excavate those fears I realized I had a horrible concept of money, not only disliking it, but deep seated beliefs that I was not worthy of having it even if I wanted it. So I had to address not only the lack of money, but the root causes of that lack.

The approach I took was rather chaotic. I am sharing it with you knowing it will not be the solution for everyone, but as an example of how I constructed the process. You will of course be able to change and modify as it suits you, and the particular issues you face.

The First Component – The Tools

  • A suitably appealing glass. I got mine at the dollar store
  • A gold paint marker
  • Milk
  • Tea light candles, also from the dollar store

Not much to build a house worth of prosperity is it? But the tools do not make the ritual. I had selected gold because of the connection of gold to wealth. After some thought I had decided to focus on Rune work for this process, specifically Fehu. Why the Runes? Simply put they are much older than I am, and have been used in powerful magic for a very long time. If I was going to overcome my fears, I wanted to leverage as much as I could to my advantage. Plus, my family on both sides had once had cattle. Cattle are a sign of prosperity, so I was hoping Fehu could also level up the Ancestral energy . Using the gold marker I placed a large Fehu on the glass. I was using a water goblet, so on the base of the glass I wrote in Rune letters the names Freyr and Freyja. I have always liked both, though I didn’t at the time have any cultus to them. But it seemed necessary to acknowledge the Gods who are so connected to summer, prosperity, and even the Rune Fehu. With that the tools were ready.

The Second Component – The Ritual

Every morning I would arise early to do this ritual. It had just a few steps.

  • At my kitchen table, I lit the candle and prayed to Freyr, Freyja and the Rune Fehu for help with my work. Could I have used an altar? Certainly, this was just a simple place to do this work. My altar at the time was in the bedroom, and my wife was sleeping. Magic must be adaptable
  • I filled the glass with milk. The reasoning here was simple: milk=cow=cattle=Fehu=wealth. Now had I been allergic to milk I might have had to change this part. All the cows I have known like oats, so I likely would have gone with oat milk
  • Since the main issue I was facing in some ways was fear, I needed to release this fear in order for anything to work properly. This was one of the reasons I chose early morning for the ritual, as a day of worries was not yet filling my head. Next I used Qi Going to clear the fear and anxiety. This might seem like an odd pairing with a Rune ritual, but it was effective and prepared my lungs for what I would be doing next. This is the specific video and technique I used, by the very calming Jeffrey Chand. Until I was practiced at it, I had no qualms about having my phone right at the table with me and playing the video
  • With the anxiety cleared and my energy flowing, I then would sit at the table, grasp the goblet, and while gently rocking back and forth, chant Fehu over and over. The depth of the altered states that resulted would vary. Some days I would deeply journey, feeling the energy of Fehu, and getting glimpses of myself and my relationship to money. Some days I might focus on visualizing what it would be like to be signing the mortgage paperwork and deed. Other days, if I am honest, it was an effort to manage to chant Fehu for ten minutes without giving in
  • Lastly, with the chanting done, with the milk as empowered with Fehu and prosperity as I could make it, I would take the goblet outside. Three libations of milk followed, one for Freyr, one for Freyja and one for Fehu, but always I left some milk in the glass for the last step
  • That last step was drinking the remaining milk. I had to be WORTHY of the prosperity I was asking for. I had to make it part of me. I had to be willing to drink of the cup of wealth, and the only way to do that was to drink some of the milk myself

The Third Component – Consistency

You may have noticed that above I said “some days” which would imply more than one, and this is true. This ritual was conducted by me without missing a day for 30 days. Now I know that this might be against some of the people who say “fire and forget” about spell work, but this was about a deeper transformation. I had to dedicate the time not only to show the Gods that I was worthy and persistent, but to show that to myself. It takes effort to manifest lasting change. You can bet some mornings I had a hard time focusing, and that some days I just didn’t want to. But consistency proved to me my own desire, and sharpened my willpower.

The Fourth Component – Expanding The Kingdom

I debated calling this forth component “follow up” but that was just too mundane. Now there is something to be understood about cattle as it relates to prosperity, and this is something that was shown to me in one of the meditations that I didn’t fully understand when beginning. Another benefit of doing this ritual over time is that your own insights will add to the layers of ritual you are creating. The thing that I didn’t understand was that a cow does not make one wealthy. Yes a farm with a cow is better than a farm with none, but you will only have enough milk for a few people. Likewise if you hide the cow away out of fear or jealousy eventually that cow will die, and without other cattle no calves will be made, so you will have no cows at all. You can get more cattle, and you will be better off, but if you truly want to be prosperous, you need to have enough cattle to have others working with or for you. A jarl would have cattle enough where he needed herdsmen, and then his wealth would even provide for them and their families. Wealth does not grow unless the cattle are moving.

To enact this is my life, as I spent money I would make sure that I recognized I was sending wealth out, to help others so it could then return to me. Thus even buying a candy bar at the gas station became a magical act. The wealth, the Fehu energy I had worked for, I was releasing in trade, so that the person receiving the money had a job, and the people making the candy bar had a job, and money moved. During this phase, while still making sure I didn’t overspend, I bought more from Etsy stores and gave to more GoFundMe’s and charities than I ever had before. They might have been small donations and purchases, but this step was instrumental in changing my fears about money and its use. Some people might abuse money, but that didn’t mean that I would.

The Fifth Component – Gamifying

To overcome the last of any mental or emotional resistance, I had to find a way to make the process more fun and less threatening. I had to make it a challenge I could overcome with practice. I had to gamify my goal. Since metric that seemed the most important after talking to a loan officer was my credit score, I set that as the game I was going to play. Using a free credit app on my phone, I carefully watched my credit score, following the recommendations and making decisions based on the “game”. If I get a store credit card, my credit score will dip, but then I will make a payment that is just a few dollars extra and it will come back higher than before with a net gain of 10 points! If I allow my app to monitor my savings account I will gain 5 points! By making a game out of what was a terrifying task, I took away its power over me.

The Results

Now, we all know how this goes. Your experience and outcomes will vary. This is magical and ritual work, not a guarantee. I did the ritual 30 days, and it took longer for all the results to manifest, but manifest they did! In my case I expanded my credit score fast enough that I easily got the loan, bypassed the need for a down payment, and secured the family farmhouse. Expand on what I have done, change it, use a variation of it to work on relationships, or your GPA. For other goals besides money you might find the app called Habitica is helpful. This is the Sixth Component – I Pass The Prosperity To You

On several occasions I have had the parents of younger children ask for help because their children have been plagued with nightmares, or are scared of the things in the closet. Some have even been scared of the spooky man or woman in the room late at night.

Who is to say if these things are imagination or the natural psychic sensitivity of the young? Children are often receptive to emotions and Spirits that we adults have filtered out or dismissed. I have developed this technique to help them. Imagination and visualization are important to this technique so it is perfect for children of certain ages and maturity levels. Use your own discretion.

I recommend using Blue Kyanite in the “blade” form, long thin pieces of this unique stone. You can tell the child in no uncertain terms and with absolute honesty that it is a very powerful magical stone against all things bad or negative. Have them take the stone to bed and put it on a shelf or table where they can access it easily. When they are feeling afraid, or wake up from a nightmare, have them take the stone and imagine the blade projecting blue energy like a light saber. Tell them to say out loud to the closet or the strange shadow in the corner “I am not afraid, and you can’t stay here. I order you to leave me alone so I can sleep”

You see Star Wars is some of our modern mythology. The symbol of the light saber is one they will recognize and respond to. They will hear the hum in their mind, they might even hear the music, they will easily visualize the blade and know how to use it. Star Wars even has a large following with girls so don’t think this is for boys only. You could even attach the kyanite to a toy light sabre, one that lights up, for extra help in the dark.

What do you get when you combine a powerful stone, empowering images, things that you connect to on an emotional level and the expression of will?

A very powerful banishing that should keep the monster in the closet at bay.

The Archbishop Desmond Tutu sits on the stage as his dear friend the Dalai Lama comes up behind and playfully acts as if he is choking him. Both friends laugh as the Archbishop exclaims “The cameras are on! Act like a Holy Man!”

I adore this exchange because it shows love and friendship, but it also shows something else. Act like a Holy Man. But could anyone argue these men are not Holy already? Holiness is a state of being not diminished by playfulness, silliness, or not being that perfect person in the eyes of the viewer (including ourselves). Even when you are in line for a coffee, stuck in traffic, or doing any number of things you are still a Holy Being. I tell you this not so you can put on airs and become arrogant, but because you need to remember that your special connection to the Divine permeates your entire life. Never let your self doubt or self consciousness take that memory from you. You are just as much a Spiritual being even when nobody’s watching.

Just a quick story that I shared with a few people over the weekend, that I thought more of you would enjoy.

I’m an adult, nearing 50 years old, but that doesn’t always translate well into the tasks being an adult requires. Adulting can be terrible, and last week one day in particular was very challenging.

In case by some luck you were someplace nice, for us last week was HOT. And when the job you have to do involves moving things on top of customer service, customers who are also hot and grouchy, it can be a lot. And I was feeling it. My shirt was dripping with sweat, my hands ached from a combination of heat, humidity and effort. I tried as usual to maintain a good attitude but it was slipping in a way which was making the minutes crawl by.

But there came a point where I had enough. So I stopped to have a quick conversation with myself.

“Ok,” I said “we just have an hour and a half to go”

“But I don’t want to, this sucks!”

“Yes it does, but I’m not making it any easier on myself by being angry about it”

“We could leave early”

“We could, but we need the money”

“We could take it out on that jerk who is not working as hard as we are”

“That certainly would not be kind or fair. How about this? If we get through just an hour and a half, we will clock out of here, go down to the gas station, and get tasty cold slushie”

“A slushie sounds really good”

“But, here is the deal. We have to have a better attitude for this hour and a half, or it is just going to seem longer than it even is”

Yeah, we are adults, and we have the things that we must do, but we also have to realize we are never that far removed from the younger self which just wants to have a treat. That treat could vary, it might be time with a friend, it might be a snuggle with the dog, it could even be as simple as a gold star on your to do list.

The Wisdom of the Slushie is to set appropriate rewards for appropriate goals and even micro goals, and let them drive you instead of letting that bad attitude get the better of you.

So what’s your favorite flavor?

If you are considering taking the popular advice of doing your shadow work, what if I told you there was something most people are missing from the process?

We all get told about shadow work at some point. “You need to do your shadow work.” “Have you done your shadow work?” Formulated by Carl Jung way back in the early to mid-1900’s the shadow was seen at the entirety of our subconscious, but then later became very focused on the negative parts that we repress or ignore. Called the shadow because of its hidden nature, the thought was that the more we are unaware of what lurks in the hidden parts the more influence it has over our lives. So if you were unaware of low self-esteem then you never would be able to consciously take actions to correct the issue. To not get in your way, you need to know what issues are lurking. This idea has become so popular that it is included in everything from television pop psychology to most witchcraft books.

There are some very obvious benefits to shadow work, such as uncovering issues that are holding you back. These are often the reasons we get caught in repeating patterns and make the same mistakes over and over. So by understanding, for example, that having deep down anger over money issues from your childhood is making saving money now difficult, you can then confront that issue.

Which is all well and good until you start asking how. How do I confront those shadows?

The answer you are going to often get is something like “have you tried journaling?” or maybe meditation? A counselor or therapist would be helpful, but generally, that is when the answers run out. Here is where I am going to suggest the element most people are leaving out.

Study your successes

There is immense power in the study of your successes, and why they were so successful. There is a very high probability of was because of actions you can influence or set in motion. But you will not understand the nuances of those factors without studying them.

For example, one morning might have gone spectacularly well, and you were in a relaxed and cheerful mood when you got to work. Most people might just chalk that up to just waking up in a good mood, but a closer look might find some interesting factors. Perhaps you come to realize that NPR that morning had done a piece on a famous composer, so there had been classical music in your home that morning. Or maybe you *gasp* didn’t check your social media before leaving the bed. It could even be that the cat had knocked over your favorite piece of rose quartz, so you spent a moment just quietly looking at that beautiful stone before moving on with the rest of your day. So many factors at play, but if you can identify the key factors then it becomes something you can replicate.

If you have concluded that saving money is the issue, you can then identify a few times when you made better choices or saved money successfully. From there you can develop a proactive set of guidelines to help you repeat that success over and over. The discovery that a free app rounded up your purchases and invested the small amounts helps you to understand you can be motivated to save if it feels like the money is “doing something”. Or maybe it’s that changing your credit score became a game, and you liked watching the points move when you paid off some of your debt. Or you might come to realize that it was that candle spell you did to change your perspective of what prosperity means. Maybe you went out of your way to donate a few dollars out of every 50 you saved to help kids who were in challenging situations like you were.

What makes this even more powerful is that the successes you have had can then become templates and metaphors for other areas in your life. How can you apply the lessons from one area to another? Was there a specific mindset? A piece of information or technology? How can you use the positive lift of success in one area to motivate you in one that is completely unrelated?

Now for a couple of cautionary notes. It can be easy to assign benefits to one thing when it was another. In my rose quartz example above, you might want to credit the rose quartz itself, but it might have been the quiet few moments you spent in contemplation. It will take some experimentation and testing to determine which it was. I also need to note that none of this is a guarantee. You could do everything right and still not have a good successful day. But isn’t it worth it to increase the odds? What if a little work in this area gave you just one more success in one of your goals per week? Wouldn’t you accept those results?

By studying your successes you will come to a better understanding not just of what you are running from, but how to better move forward. Now I just need a catchy term. Go and do your light work! No, that might get confused for something else. Go and do your brightwork! No, that sounds like a dishwashing soap commercial. Go and do your radiance work! That might have potential.

If you are trying to decide whether or not to work with a deity/archetype/spirit, what if I told you you had a 52% chance of already having the wrong answer.

Confused yet? How could it be the wrong answer? How are we defining wrong? Follow along and I will explain.

In 2010 Paul Nutt, who had retired from Ohio State University published about his collected study of businesses, governments and nonprofits making decisions. In his work, Nutt looked at the process of making decisions, talking to power players in those organizations about how the decisions were made. He then talked to informants lower in those organizations, and analyzed data, to conclude if those decisions had been good decisions, sustainable over time, and meeting the goals outlined by those decisions.

Nutt found that 52% of the time those decisions made by the power players, who had all the information they needed at hand, surrounded by people who also wanted the organization to succeed, ended up not being good decisions. Anyone who has spent time in a large organization might be tempted to state this failure rate is low.

Nutt came to the conclusion that the main culprit of these failed decisions was that they were “whether or not” decisions. Whether or not decisions presume that there is only a yes/no paradigm, and limit the scope of the options. Further, if we think back to our youthful days to questions like “whether or not I should go on this date” we know we are already at that point leaning to an answer, thus we are inclined to only pay attention to things that affirm our thoughts, also called confirmation bias.

“OK Jim, but how does this even relate to our spiritual lives?” you may be asking. Because we often find ourselves in the same position. For this example I will be using Apollo, but it could easily be Uriel, Jesus, Rabbit, Loki, or an almost infinite number of others. But let us say that we have the question of “whether or not I should work with Apollo?” I’m here to tell you that you have already created a false paradigm. By limiting this question to a binary, you increase the odds that any readings or advice you get will only create confirmation bias. You need to ask what other options are available.

A list of possible options for Apollo might look like this

  • My life is very intense right now, so I will review next year
  • My life is very busy right now, so I will just pay attention to the solar cycle
  • My life needs more creativity right now, so I will call on Apollo to help me and spend more time on those things
  • I like Apollo, so will spend some time in study of the mythology to see why it resonates
  • I like Apollo, but am very busy, so I will just have a small shrine to him
  • I am studying medicine, so I’m going to ask Apollo to watch over me and my studies, but I’m not going to have a lot of time for personal work
  • I spent a year in quarantine, and now am stressed about opening up, so I’m going to dedicate a year to him
  • I desire intense change and transformation, so I am going to ask Apollo to work with me to overcome these (listed) challenges
  • While I like Apollo, he is not the best fit, but I’m going to keep examining the myths and pantheon

From a list of options, your questions to friends and mentors, knowledge of yourself, and your divination will be able to give you much more insight into what is best for you. Make sure that your spiritual work matches and compliments the life you want to live.

I hope what I write below makes sense to you the reader. I am sure it is a message from Spirit but in case this doesn’t make sense or if the message seems wrong to you, blame me the messenger.

Raising Your Vibration

It’s not uncommon in spirituality to borrow terms from science to express things we might not have other good ways of expressing. Dimensions, frequencies, vibrations, energy, and many more. Recently I was reading a web site that was talking about all the turmoil in the world right now and trying to equate that with the turmoil in humans. The theory went that our inner turmoil is causing the climate change here on Mother Earth, and that we needed to raise our vibrations to a higher realm in order to go beyond these problems.

But What If That’s The Wrong Way

Up and down are words that like good and bad come loaded with a lot of baggage. Many people associate them the same way as well, with down always being bad. But is that so?

Many of the places and gurus who will tell you we need to vibrate at a higher frequency seem to have been caught up in this same mindset. Up is better, right? If we vibrate at the right frequency we can ascend from these material problems, and this material world.

This avoids a fundamental problem: that we as Spirits have incarnated in this material plane for a reason, and at its core allows us to attempt to ignore our human responsibilities on this planet. It is in essence absolutely no different than a fundamentalist mentality that with enough prayer we will be raptured up to Heaven so it doesn’t matter what sort of Earth we are leaving. By focusing on the Up, we are creating some very real problems.

What’s the Frequency

If we are to keep using the terms of physics, we can take a closer look at some of the other terms as well, in particular frequency. The defining feature of any vibration is the frequency, the space between the waves of oscillation. Frequency as well is defined as high or low, but that is just simply a measure of the space between the waves over a given set of time. It has no inherent value of good or bad. The ideal frequency depends completely on the situation, as any of us who have tried to tune in a radio can attest to. If we use light as an example the color with the shortest frequency (red) and the longest (violet or blue) both have advantages but to us as humans we are best able to detect green light during the day, and yellow light at night, both considerably in the middle. The three worlds way of visualizing the spiritual universe is very flawed and far from culturally universal, but as an analogy this too is showing us that we live and breathe in the middle.

From The Stars to Mother Earth

Even the very place we live, Mother Earth, Pachamama, reflects this. We sit below the stars, vast engines of light and power which have over time created every other element in the universe. Beneath our feet is the Mother, and at her core a swirling and spinning mass of molten iron forged in the stars. She literally has lowered her vibration so we might exist. There is a lesson in that for us.

An editorial in Scientific American by Tam Hunt talks about how in some scientific circles they are linking consciousness to frequency, a concept called panpsychism.

As Tam explains “The panpsychist argues that consciousness (subjectivity) did not emerge; rather, it’s always associated with matter, and vice versa (they are two sides of the same coin), but mind as associated with most of the matter in our universe is generally very simple. An electron or an atom, for example, enjoy just a tiny amount of consciousness. But as matter “complexifies,” so mind complexifies, and vice versa.”

This is a scientific attempt to quantify what we all know as the spiritual concept of animism. Everything is alive. What panpsychism has not discovered yet is that a mountain is not just a collection of aggregates with very little consciousness, but a large and complex consciousness of its own. But I’m confident they will get there eventually.

Another principle of physics is that vibrating things in proximity to each other will eventually come to vibrate in similar ways.

Yanantin and Animism

All of this is a very long way of me trying to explain the Inca concept of yanantin, which is the message that Spirit was trying to convey. Yanantin is the relationship between dissimilar energies. Phrased another way it is the belief that what might be considered oppositional or conflicting energies are in fact complimentary. One could not exist without the other, and in fact one makes the other stronger and more refined. Left and right, or in the case of this writing, up and down.

Spirit wanted me to tell you about all this because yanantin is important if we are to survive in a balanced way on this our Mother. There is a truth to the fact that our inner turmoil is causing climate change and a whole host of other issues, but it is not because of some mystic equation. It is because our inner turmoil has caused us to disconnect from the world around us. This disconnect persuades us to take false and destructive actions and lessons our feeling or responsibility. But just as Mother Earth lowered her vibration for us to live, we must at times lower our vibration in order to better communicate with the very world around us. Once we have done that, we will be open to the life in each and every thing and treat it as a brother or a sister. This will allow us to connect more to this the so called middle world, and restore our balance both internally and externally.

Remember this as you ground and center, your consciousness reaching both above to the stars and below to the Mother. Or as phrased elsewhere, as above so below.

Be at peace my friends.
