Hello my friends, this is the week’s reading for my followers and Patreon supporters for the week of July 4th, 2021.

I release the reading to the public on Wednesdays, so if you want to get the reading on Sunday so you have it for the entire week, sign up for my Patreon at just the $5 a month level. And if you are already a Patreon supporter, thank you so much!

I’m using the *Witches Wisdom tarot this week and a new spread that I like. Let’s see what you think.

The first card is the Energy of the Week Ahead, which is 4 of Fire reversed. The 4 is about the hearth and home, family and security. Reversed I don’t tend to think this means anything bad will happen in those areas, it feels more like a reminder that we are going to have to leave our dens this week. The energy of the week might demand some time out of the home, something we are all at some level trying to get used to again.

Next is What We Should Focus On, which is Healing. A reminder that we are not invincible, nor are we designed to be. But with rest and time we can heal. So what wounds are hurting you? Are they physical, mental, or emotional?

What Challenges Will This Week Have brings us the 5 of Fire reversed. Lot’s of reversed fire energy in this spread, interesting. The 5 of Fire is about choices. Like fire can sometimes be helpful or destructive, so too are our choices. Also a card that speaks of healing because it asks if your pain makes you reach out for others, or if it makes you withdraw to be bitter and angry.

What Is Working In Our Favor is the 10 of Earth. There is a vast network in the soil, trees and fungi communicate with each other, connections like the neurons of our minds. You cannot see a mushroom, without seeing the entire forest around it. The 10 of Earth is about interconnectedness.

OK, so there is some healing to be done this week, that much is clear. But we are not going to find it at home. Solitude or hiding our wounds away like our kits just isn’t going to work well. We need to get out, at least communicate, outwards. Healing is to be found in our network of loved ones. If there are decisions you need to make, talk to others who are in your network, get feedback and opinions so you can make the best choices. Keeping to yourself this week is like trying to hold onto a hot coal.

Magical Work

Many times with communication and networking in the cards I might be tempted to say things like it’s a good time to sit in front of your altar and commune with Spirit. But I’m really feeling the pull that this is much more human based. So while it might not seem magical, we have to express that 10 of Earth and communicate with others. This week touch base with some people you might not have in a while. If you have a network of other people in your profession or a similar Spiritual path, make sure to say hello. If you have a favorite author perhaps it’s time to send them a note of appreciation. But most importantly, if you have identified something you need to heal, healing energy, advice, and even new ideas for how to do that healing can be found in your networks of associates. Given how withdrawn many of us are feeling from the pandemic, the act of reaching out might be the healing act in and of itself.

Just a quick story that I shared with a few people over the weekend, that I thought more of you would enjoy.

I’m an adult, nearing 50 years old, but that doesn’t always translate well into the tasks being an adult requires. Adulting can be terrible, and last week one day in particular was very challenging.

In case by some luck you were someplace nice, for us last week was HOT. And when the job you have to do involves moving things on top of customer service, customers who are also hot and grouchy, it can be a lot. And I was feeling it. My shirt was dripping with sweat, my hands ached from a combination of heat, humidity and effort. I tried as usual to maintain a good attitude but it was slipping in a way which was making the minutes crawl by.

But there came a point where I had enough. So I stopped to have a quick conversation with myself.

“Ok,” I said “we just have an hour and a half to go”

“But I don’t want to, this sucks!”

“Yes it does, but I’m not making it any easier on myself by being angry about it”

“We could leave early”

“We could, but we need the money”

“We could take it out on that jerk who is not working as hard as we are”

“That certainly would not be kind or fair. How about this? If we get through just an hour and a half, we will clock out of here, go down to the gas station, and get tasty cold slushie”

“A slushie sounds really good”

“But, here is the deal. We have to have a better attitude for this hour and a half, or it is just going to seem longer than it even is”

Yeah, we are adults, and we have the things that we must do, but we also have to realize we are never that far removed from the younger self which just wants to have a treat. That treat could vary, it might be time with a friend, it might be a snuggle with the dog, it could even be as simple as a gold star on your to do list.

The Wisdom of the Slushie is to set appropriate rewards for appropriate goals and even micro goals, and let them drive you instead of letting that bad attitude get the better of you.

So what’s your favorite flavor?

If you are considering taking the popular advice of doing your shadow work, what if I told you there was something most people are missing from the process?

We all get told about shadow work at some point. “You need to do your shadow work.” “Have you done your shadow work?” Formulated by Carl Jung way back in the early to mid-1900’s the shadow was seen at the entirety of our subconscious, but then later became very focused on the negative parts that we repress or ignore. Called the shadow because of its hidden nature, the thought was that the more we are unaware of what lurks in the hidden parts the more influence it has over our lives. So if you were unaware of low self-esteem then you never would be able to consciously take actions to correct the issue. To not get in your way, you need to know what issues are lurking. This idea has become so popular that it is included in everything from television pop psychology to most witchcraft books.

There are some very obvious benefits to shadow work, such as uncovering issues that are holding you back. These are often the reasons we get caught in repeating patterns and make the same mistakes over and over. So by understanding, for example, that having deep down anger over money issues from your childhood is making saving money now difficult, you can then confront that issue.

Which is all well and good until you start asking how. How do I confront those shadows?

The answer you are going to often get is something like “have you tried journaling?” or maybe meditation? A counselor or therapist would be helpful, but generally, that is when the answers run out. Here is where I am going to suggest the element most people are leaving out.

Study your successes

There is immense power in the study of your successes, and why they were so successful. There is a very high probability of was because of actions you can influence or set in motion. But you will not understand the nuances of those factors without studying them.

For example, one morning might have gone spectacularly well, and you were in a relaxed and cheerful mood when you got to work. Most people might just chalk that up to just waking up in a good mood, but a closer look might find some interesting factors. Perhaps you come to realize that NPR that morning had done a piece on a famous composer, so there had been classical music in your home that morning. Or maybe you *gasp* didn’t check your social media before leaving the bed. It could even be that the cat had knocked over your favorite piece of rose quartz, so you spent a moment just quietly looking at that beautiful stone before moving on with the rest of your day. So many factors at play, but if you can identify the key factors then it becomes something you can replicate.

If you have concluded that saving money is the issue, you can then identify a few times when you made better choices or saved money successfully. From there you can develop a proactive set of guidelines to help you repeat that success over and over. The discovery that a free app rounded up your purchases and invested the small amounts helps you to understand you can be motivated to save if it feels like the money is “doing something”. Or maybe it’s that changing your credit score became a game, and you liked watching the points move when you paid off some of your debt. Or you might come to realize that it was that candle spell you did to change your perspective of what prosperity means. Maybe you went out of your way to donate a few dollars out of every 50 you saved to help kids who were in challenging situations like you were.

What makes this even more powerful is that the successes you have had can then become templates and metaphors for other areas in your life. How can you apply the lessons from one area to another? Was there a specific mindset? A piece of information or technology? How can you use the positive lift of success in one area to motivate you in one that is completely unrelated?

Now for a couple of cautionary notes. It can be easy to assign benefits to one thing when it was another. In my rose quartz example above, you might want to credit the rose quartz itself, but it might have been the quiet few moments you spent in contemplation. It will take some experimentation and testing to determine which it was. I also need to note that none of this is a guarantee. You could do everything right and still not have a good successful day. But isn’t it worth it to increase the odds? What if a little work in this area gave you just one more success in one of your goals per week? Wouldn’t you accept those results?

By studying your successes you will come to a better understanding not just of what you are running from, but how to better move forward. Now I just need a catchy term. Go and do your light work! No, that might get confused for something else. Go and do your brightwork! No, that sounds like a dishwashing soap commercial. Go and do your radiance work! That might have potential.

Hello my friends, this is the week’s reading for my followers and Patreon supporters for the week of June 20th, 2021.

With the summer solstice in just a few hours (11:32 pm to be exact) I was feeling the energy of Freyr, and inspired by his magical boat, have done the rowboat reading using the Witches Wisdom tarot.

Where we sit is the 4 of Fire, which is about comfort, family, and being safe at home. Chances are we are feeling pretty content right now. Perfect? No, but not too bad either.

What we are leaving behind is the cards being silly, because for that we have the Sun. The solstice we will be leaving behind. The Sun is a card not only of brightness, but a card of challenging our darkness. If there have been shadows you have been fighting, this week you are going to put that struggle behind you.

We are being steered by our two oars, and what a powerful combination! The Great Mother on the left oar (a bit of the subconscious) and the Ancestors at the right oar. Taken in combination I think we are looking at not even just human Ancestors, but ones of the lands, plants and animals of the places where we live (tying back to that 4 of Fire). We have the resources we need to move ahead, and we also have the wisdom of those who came before us.

Where we are going is the Witch of Water, which makes a lot of sense as we transition into Cancer in the zodiac. Water, emotions, and tides of both. How to embody and carry your emotions.

And lastly the lighthouse, what we need to know about, which is the 3 of Air, which is about having perspective.

The word that really sticks out to me this week is one associated with the Witch of Water, and that word is Permission. Where you are sitting right now is great, and it’s a good spot to start some needed emotional work. You are guided and you have the resources you need. So the Witch of Water is giving you permission to embody those emotions. Take a closer look at that 3 of Air. Notice the hurons are leaving behind some dark and turbulent water? The lighthouse is reminding us that if the waters get too dark and turbulent to get a better perspective. Don’t get stuck in those waters. Because with the Sun in the position of what we are leaving behind, the time to really dig into the shadows is passing too. We don’t need to keep shining a light into every single dark corner we have, what we need to do is learn to embody or carry the emotion we have.

Magical Work

Keeping it simple this week. Every morning drink a glass of nice cool water. Remember the things you are grateful for, and that you have the ability, indeed even the permission, to manifest your emotions in a good way.

This week I am using the Four Directions spread with the Starman tarot.

The South is associated with Hatun Amaru, the great serpent, she who helps us with healing and transformation, and also with the physical world. For the South card I have drawn The Lovers. It is easy to associate Hatun Amaru with Kundalini energy, as the South often represents the physical selves as well as that sort of primal fire of creation energy. It could be that you are feeling that sensuality this week, but I am going to throw in some additional thoughts. Part of the Lovers as a card is seeking connection to others and another part, one that feels very relevant here, is the acceptance of ourselves. Find the beauty in your own body.

The West is associated with Otorongo, the jaguar, she who helps us with the past, and with setting healthy boundaries. For the West card I have drawn the Queen of Pentacles. The Queen is about nurturing and sharing the wealth. Given it’s position here with the connection to boundaries, and running off of that energy of the Lovers, I think it reinforces that need for connection. What else is love but the opening of the guarded places in our hearts? The Queen is aware of interconnected systems, and so is generous.

The North is associated with Siwar Kinti, the hummingbird, she who is the messenger between the worlds, and also the artist who is attracted to bright colors and wonderful flowers, and with Huanacauri the Dragon, she who helps us be steadfast and do things step by step, the right way. For this card I have drawn The Devil. Now we are getting really juicy! Here we are in the North thinking about doing things the right way, and of lovely flowers in the garden and who should show up but temptation. Super fascinating the way this is mirroring the South card. There in the South we have the Serpent and the Lovers, in the North we find the being that became the Serpent to cause division between Adam and Eve. In this position I imagine the key is knowing what tempts us. Why are we longing for connection, or even lust? What is it serving in us? What wisdom might we be hiding from ourselves?

The East is associated with Kuntor, the condor, she who helps us to have long range vision, to see the future, seeing things from a loving but detached perspective. For the East card I have drawn the Four of Swords. Darn no flaming swords, so there goes my Biblical metaphors, but it is at least a card of swords. The Four is about sitting in stillness, and allowing yourself rest before acting. Your plans will come together, but they cannot be rushed. Very appropriate for a card of Kuntor, but what is the overall story?

The way it’s looking to me is that this week will have some fire and passion to it, very much about seeking what you desire. You are going to have to confront some of your own limitations, and accept yourself for the amazing person you are. There are going to be some temptations that make you want to take some shortcuts, and forget the rules as you grab a big ole bite of that apple. But, how can I put this mildly, the universe is going to be doing some other word for rooster blocking. Now you can get angry at the delays, or you can use them to form a better harmony, getting more in tune with you and what you’re really wanting because it’s not just some short term goal you are after, but something that will last. As the week progresses you’re going to see that work start to pan out.

Magical Work

Ready for a challenge this week? Over the course of the week I want you to contact three friends or people you are close to. Ask those three friends to tell you at least a single thing they love about you. Don’t excuse or deflect what they tell you, take it in. In the spirit of reciprocity it would be kind to tell them something in return.

Now, when you have at least three things, go to the mirror, meet your own gaze if possible staring at your left eye, and repeat what you were told to yourself. No not “Sally said she loves my laugh” but just “I love my laugh” Reflect what they love about you deep into yourself and accept it fully. “Nicholas loves my compassion” becomes “I love my compassion”.

Reflect on how both giving and receiving these loving thoughts affects you.

If you are trying to decide whether or not to work with a deity/archetype/spirit, what if I told you you had a 52% chance of already having the wrong answer.

Confused yet? How could it be the wrong answer? How are we defining wrong? Follow along and I will explain.

In 2010 Paul Nutt, who had retired from Ohio State University published about his collected study of businesses, governments and nonprofits making decisions. In his work, Nutt looked at the process of making decisions, talking to power players in those organizations about how the decisions were made. He then talked to informants lower in those organizations, and analyzed data, to conclude if those decisions had been good decisions, sustainable over time, and meeting the goals outlined by those decisions.

Nutt found that 52% of the time those decisions made by the power players, who had all the information they needed at hand, surrounded by people who also wanted the organization to succeed, ended up not being good decisions. Anyone who has spent time in a large organization might be tempted to state this failure rate is low.

Nutt came to the conclusion that the main culprit of these failed decisions was that they were “whether or not” decisions. Whether or not decisions presume that there is only a yes/no paradigm, and limit the scope of the options. Further, if we think back to our youthful days to questions like “whether or not I should go on this date” we know we are already at that point leaning to an answer, thus we are inclined to only pay attention to things that affirm our thoughts, also called confirmation bias.

“OK Jim, but how does this even relate to our spiritual lives?” you may be asking. Because we often find ourselves in the same position. For this example I will be using Apollo, but it could easily be Uriel, Jesus, Rabbit, Loki, or an almost infinite number of others. But let us say that we have the question of “whether or not I should work with Apollo?” I’m here to tell you that you have already created a false paradigm. By limiting this question to a binary, you increase the odds that any readings or advice you get will only create confirmation bias. You need to ask what other options are available.

A list of possible options for Apollo might look like this

  • My life is very intense right now, so I will review next year
  • My life is very busy right now, so I will just pay attention to the solar cycle
  • My life needs more creativity right now, so I will call on Apollo to help me and spend more time on those things
  • I like Apollo, so will spend some time in study of the mythology to see why it resonates
  • I like Apollo, but am very busy, so I will just have a small shrine to him
  • I am studying medicine, so I’m going to ask Apollo to watch over me and my studies, but I’m not going to have a lot of time for personal work
  • I spent a year in quarantine, and now am stressed about opening up, so I’m going to dedicate a year to him
  • I desire intense change and transformation, so I am going to ask Apollo to work with me to overcome these (listed) challenges
  • While I like Apollo, he is not the best fit, but I’m going to keep examining the myths and pantheon

From a list of options, your questions to friends and mentors, knowledge of yourself, and your divination will be able to give you much more insight into what is best for you. Make sure that your spiritual work matches and compliments the life you want to live.

I hope what I write below makes sense to you the reader. I am sure it is a message from Spirit but in case this doesn’t make sense or if the message seems wrong to you, blame me the messenger.

Raising Your Vibration

It’s not uncommon in spirituality to borrow terms from science to express things we might not have other good ways of expressing. Dimensions, frequencies, vibrations, energy, and many more. Recently I was reading a web site that was talking about all the turmoil in the world right now and trying to equate that with the turmoil in humans. The theory went that our inner turmoil is causing the climate change here on Mother Earth, and that we needed to raise our vibrations to a higher realm in order to go beyond these problems.

But What If That’s The Wrong Way

Up and down are words that like good and bad come loaded with a lot of baggage. Many people associate them the same way as well, with down always being bad. But is that so?

Many of the places and gurus who will tell you we need to vibrate at a higher frequency seem to have been caught up in this same mindset. Up is better, right? If we vibrate at the right frequency we can ascend from these material problems, and this material world.

This avoids a fundamental problem: that we as Spirits have incarnated in this material plane for a reason, and at its core allows us to attempt to ignore our human responsibilities on this planet. It is in essence absolutely no different than a fundamentalist mentality that with enough prayer we will be raptured up to Heaven so it doesn’t matter what sort of Earth we are leaving. By focusing on the Up, we are creating some very real problems.

What’s the Frequency

If we are to keep using the terms of physics, we can take a closer look at some of the other terms as well, in particular frequency. The defining feature of any vibration is the frequency, the space between the waves of oscillation. Frequency as well is defined as high or low, but that is just simply a measure of the space between the waves over a given set of time. It has no inherent value of good or bad. The ideal frequency depends completely on the situation, as any of us who have tried to tune in a radio can attest to. If we use light as an example the color with the shortest frequency (red) and the longest (violet or blue) both have advantages but to us as humans we are best able to detect green light during the day, and yellow light at night, both considerably in the middle. The three worlds way of visualizing the spiritual universe is very flawed and far from culturally universal, but as an analogy this too is showing us that we live and breathe in the middle.

From The Stars to Mother Earth

Even the very place we live, Mother Earth, Pachamama, reflects this. We sit below the stars, vast engines of light and power which have over time created every other element in the universe. Beneath our feet is the Mother, and at her core a swirling and spinning mass of molten iron forged in the stars. She literally has lowered her vibration so we might exist. There is a lesson in that for us.

An editorial in Scientific American by Tam Hunt talks about how in some scientific circles they are linking consciousness to frequency, a concept called panpsychism.

As Tam explains “The panpsychist argues that consciousness (subjectivity) did not emerge; rather, it’s always associated with matter, and vice versa (they are two sides of the same coin), but mind as associated with most of the matter in our universe is generally very simple. An electron or an atom, for example, enjoy just a tiny amount of consciousness. But as matter “complexifies,” so mind complexifies, and vice versa.”

This is a scientific attempt to quantify what we all know as the spiritual concept of animism. Everything is alive. What panpsychism has not discovered yet is that a mountain is not just a collection of aggregates with very little consciousness, but a large and complex consciousness of its own. But I’m confident they will get there eventually.

Another principle of physics is that vibrating things in proximity to each other will eventually come to vibrate in similar ways.

Yanantin and Animism

All of this is a very long way of me trying to explain the Inca concept of yanantin, which is the message that Spirit was trying to convey. Yanantin is the relationship between dissimilar energies. Phrased another way it is the belief that what might be considered oppositional or conflicting energies are in fact complimentary. One could not exist without the other, and in fact one makes the other stronger and more refined. Left and right, or in the case of this writing, up and down.

Spirit wanted me to tell you about all this because yanantin is important if we are to survive in a balanced way on this our Mother. There is a truth to the fact that our inner turmoil is causing climate change and a whole host of other issues, but it is not because of some mystic equation. It is because our inner turmoil has caused us to disconnect from the world around us. This disconnect persuades us to take false and destructive actions and lessons our feeling or responsibility. But just as Mother Earth lowered her vibration for us to live, we must at times lower our vibration in order to better communicate with the very world around us. Once we have done that, we will be open to the life in each and every thing and treat it as a brother or a sister. This will allow us to connect more to this the so called middle world, and restore our balance both internally and externally.

Remember this as you ground and center, your consciousness reaching both above to the stars and below to the Mother. Or as phrased elsewhere, as above so below.

Be at peace my friends.

Hello my friends, this is the week’s reading for my followers and Patreon supporters for the week of June 6th, 2021.

I release the reading to the public on Wednesdays, so if you want to get the reading on Sunday so you have it for the entire week, sign up for my Patreon at just the $5 a month level. And if you are already a Patreon supporter, thank you so much!

We have quite the week ahead, with an eclipse happening on Thursday. Combined with Gemini energy, and a Mercury retrograde, there is a lot going on in the realms above. I have done a 3 card Eclipse spread, with 1 card placed, then two other cards covering it. I then opened the two cards to reveal the card beneath. For this spread I used the True Heart Intuitive Tarot.

The two outer cards are the 8 of Discs and the 10 of Discs reversed. The 8 says that hard work is about to pay off BIG, and encourages one to dive into the craft and practice. The 10 however is about that dream lost. Something failed, you were defeated, you are feeling stagnated.

That’s quite a combination, and they seem to be the opposite of each other, so let’s see what they are eclipsing. The 8 of Cups. Change, endings, new journeys. The weight of what has been holding you down is lifting and new events are ahead.

So, what can we gather out of this simple three card spread? I think the energy in the air, and the coming eclipse will be showing us this week what we need to move away from and what doors need to close. The dark surrounded by the ring of fire, combined with that retrograde making us look at the messages we receive and where they falter and where we are wasting our time.

The 8 of Discs is telling you that the work you have put in is it’s own reward, and it will pay off, but the 10 seems to me to be saying not in the way you think. How else could you apply your hard won skills in a way you might not have expected? Or perhaps even that the ambitions you had in mind might not pan out this week, but that you are more than capable of finding a brand new path. Focus on new opportunities that will allow your hard work to shine. At the very least know when to walk away from situations where your knowledge or skills are not appreciated.

Magical Work

Take a small piece of paper, and write one cycle you would like to change. It doesn’t have to be “getting rid” of something, but more of a different path. Say you are feeling frustrated that people are not hearing your music after you spent all winter practicing, so you would like to find some new ways for people to hear you play. Write that out, fold it tight, and place it on a mirror that the sun will touch the day of the eclipse. (the eclipse might not be visible where you are, but the energy is there). The mirror doesn’t need to be big, it could be a small makeup mirror, or without that perhaps a shiny piece of foil. After the eclipse put the folded paper near wear you work or practice for a few days while you work on creating the change you are seeking.
